NewJeans’ “How Sweet” Faces Plagiarism Lawsuit From American Producers, ADOR responds
HYBE subsidiary label Ador addressed plagiarism allegations surrounding NewJeans’ hit song “How Sweet.”
On the 10th of July, NewJeans’ agency ADOR told Star News regarding the plagiarism allegations, “The song in question was acquired through Bana, which was selected by Min Hee Jin, who was CEO at the time.” Ador continued, “We are currently reviewing internal documents regarding whether Min’s former management properly conducted audio similarity reviews at the time.”
On the same day, Dispatch reported that four American producers and singer-songwriters filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against HYBE, ADOR, NewJeans, production company Bana (Beats and Natives), and composer and DJ 250.
According to reports, Bana, who handled composition and production for “How Sweet,” submitted an instrumental track to American publishing company Pulse Music and requested topline work. Four writers, including Audrey Amakosst, collaborated on the topline. However, the topline they created was later rejected during the song production process. Approximately four months later, when “How Sweet” was released, they discovered similarities between the song and the topline they had created.
“How Sweet” was released in May 2024 and achieved global popularity, reaching number 18 on the Billboard Global 200 chart after its release.
