NewJeans (now using the name NJZ) has been legally barred from pursuing independent activities following a court ruling.

On the 21st of March, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Agreement Division 50 (Presiding Judge Kim Sang Hoon) granted ADOR’s request for an injunction, preventing the five NewJeans members from carrying out independent activities under the name NJZ.

NewJeans had notified ADOR of their contract termination in late November last year and subsequently announced their new team name, NJZ, as they began independent promotions.

In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit on December 3, 2023, with the Seoul Central District Court, seeking confirmation that the exclusive contract remains valid.

The purpose of this injunction was to ensure that ADOR’s status as the group’s legitimate management company remains recognized until a final verdict is reached in the lawsuit regarding the contract’s validity. ADOR claims that the contract with NewJeans is valid until July 31, 2029, and that a unilateral claim of broken trust is not sufficient grounds for termination.

In January, ADOR also sought the injunction to prevent confusion and potential damages for advertisers and third parties. Last month, on the 11th, ADOR expanded the scope of the request, asking the court to ban not only advertisements but also all songwriting, composing, performing, singing, and other related activities by NewJeans.
