One Of The Biggest Korean Artists Reportedly Had His Home Seized Due To Unauthorized Modifications, He Clarifies The Rumors

PSY has clarified allegations regarding fines and the seizure of his home due to unauthorized modifications and construction.

On November 25, reports claimed that PSY failed to comply with an order to rectify building code violations for a duplex unit he owned in the UN Village in Hannam-dong, Seoul. The violations allegedly involved illegally connecting a duplex unit to an adjacent office space and unpermitted structural changes inside the home. These led to fines that PSY reportedly did not pay for over a year, resulting in the property being seized. It was later reported that PSY paid the fines in October, lifting the seizure, though the rectifications were still incomplete.

PSY’s team refuted the allegations. A representative stated to HeraldPOP that when PSY bought the property in 2007, it was in its original condition, with no alterations made by him. They said the illegal construction dated back to the original builder, and PSY became aware of it only after complaints were filed. PSY and other residents are now working with the district office and contractors to correct the violations. Additionally, his team clarified that the fine payment delay was due to a late notice but has since been fully resolved.

The reports also highlighted PSY purchasing a new property worth approximately 10 billion won during this time, but his team did not comment on this.
