Red Velvet’s Joy Reportedly Leaving SM Entertainment And Signing With An Actor’s Agency, SM Responds

Reports about Red Velvet‘s Joy next step after her contract expires with SM have made headlines!

On September 21, Star News reported that Joy had met with actor management companies, hinting at a possible change in agency as her contract with SM approaches its renewal period. This has sparked interest, as Red Velvet members Seulgi and Irene have already renewed their contracts with SM Entertainment, in August last year and February this year, respectively.

SM Entertainment later told Newsen, “We are in discussions with Joy regarding her contract renewal.”

Red Velvet, which debuted in 2014 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has released numerous hit songs like “Ice Cream Cake,” “Dumb Dumb,” “Rookie,” and “Red Flavor.” Joy also ventured into acting in 2017 with the tvN drama The Liar and His Lover, followed by roles in Tempted, The One and Only, and Once Upon a Small Town.

Joy’s next step is attracting a lot of attention because of what she’d been saying about SM’s management. The idol had openly spoken about the way the agency handled their comeback and more recently.

Previously, Joy took to Bubble, a paid platform, to talk to fans about the group’s comeback. Joy wrote, “Until when is this going to be a secret? Or did they forget to let people know? Or they can’t? Or maybe they’ll release it next week?” when talking to fans about how their group was supposed to make a comeback in June but at the time SM had not revealed it yet to fans.
