Infamous Reality Dating Show Contestant Reflects On Suicide Attempt Due To Drug Use And Why She Changed Her Name In Shocking Blog Post
Seo Min-jae, an influencer who appeared on the Channel A reality dating show “Heart Signal 3,” recently revealed her experience of drug use and a subsequent suicide attempt.
Recently, Seo shared a post on her blog titled “I Am a Drug Offender.”
She recounted a particularly terrible day, about a week after she had used drugs. She suffered from severe side effects like insomnia, depression, and panic attacks. Unable to cope, she admitted to recklessly abusing sleep and psychiatric medications. Her next memory is of being found by the police after jumping from the second floor after attempting suicide, breaking both her hip bones, and being taken to the hospital to be treated.
She explained that the large amounts of dopamine create a sense of “fake happiness,” stating, “Addicts can’t find joy in everyday life. Things that used to make me laugh or happy no longer have any effect on me. It’s not because ‘I liked it so much that I want to do it again,’ but because everything that sustained my life loses meaning, and I feel like I’m going to die without it.”
As her desire for sleep and food disappeared, Seo Min-jae recalled, “I was on the verge of wasting away completely.” She continued, “In a way, it was fortunate that I wrote about my drug use on social media a week later and then jumped off a building. It allowed me to stop. If nothing had happened to me that day, I would have become a chronic addict and faced a far worse ending.” She concluded by stressing, “The end of drug use is either a mental hospital, prison, or death,” urging people to be cautious.
Seo also mentioned that this incident led to her mother leaving her teaching job. Reflecting on the experience, she described how terrifying drugs can be, especially when considering how they pushed her to the brink of despair.
Seo Min-jae, who recently changed her name to Seo Eun-woo, explained the reason behind her name change. She stated, “Changing my name doesn’t erase or make the past disappear, but I disliked the negative connotations that seemed to follow whenever I was called by my old name. I didn’t want to be reminded of painful memories when I or my family heard that name. So this time, I want to live more correctly and honestly.”
In August 2022, Seo Min-jae publicly revealed that she and former WINNER member Nam Tae-hyun had used methamphetamine together. As a result, both were sentenced in January to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for their involvement in drug use at Seo’s residence in Yongsan, Seoul.
Recently, Seo Min-jae accused Nam Tae-hyun of dating violence and revenge porn, which stirred controversy. However, Nam Tae-hyun denied the dating violence allegations and announced that he and Seo had recently broken up.
