Popular OST singer Ben has shared why she ended up getting a divorce in 2024!

On the most recent broadcast of TV Chosun’s Now Alone, singer Ben appeared and tearfully opened up about her feelings on her divorce.

Ben shared, “I was someone who wanted to get married very early. I thought, ‘I guess this is the kind of person I should marry,’ and our hearts aligned,” explaining that she decided to marry at 29. She continued, “For the first year, we lived sweetly together, but issues started to arise one by one, and we began fighting a lot. There were many, many things that happened,” she added, while MC Park Mi Sun commented, “There must be circumstances we don’t know about.”

Ben confessed, “I felt as if I had become someone very easy to take advantage of, and I often thought, ‘I didn’t love and give my heart for this kind of treatment. You shouldn’t have treated me like this.'”

Referring to herself as “a mischievous, bright little girl who loved singing,” Ben said, “In our family, if we ate out, the last course was always karaoke. My mom and dad were really full of spirit. I met senior Yoon Min Soo for the first time in an audition at 19, where I sang songs like Jackson 5’s ‘Ben,’ which is how my stage name, Ben, came to be.”

Ben continued, “When I was young, I loved babies so much I wanted a younger sibling, and even while trying to conceive after marriage, we’d get upset during conversations and end up arguing. During a tough peak in our marriage, while on a trip to take a break, Ria was conceived. It felt like she came to save me. Having a child made me try to be happy, but then I divorced just six months after giving birth.”

Ben reflected, “So many things happened, and I worked incredibly hard to overcome them. I thought divorce would never be a part of my life. Growing up, lying was the one thing I was never supposed to do. Complete trust was shattered. After giving birth, I realized I couldn’t keep living like this. Ria gave me the courage. I wanted to show her only good things as someone responsible for her happiness.”

She explained her decision to divorce shortly after childbirth, saying, “This wasn’t the first crisis. I tried to overcome my fears, but even after Ria was born, I kept living the same way. Now I had to take responsibility for a child, and I realized that I needed to be mentally sound, happy, and whole in order to take care of her.”

Ben also shared, “I lived a very worn-down life and experienced depression for the first time. I’d been in the entertainment industry for 14 years, always confident in my health, but I reached a point of complete surrender. Although I decided to divorce, it wasn’t as easy as I thought. If Ria asks for her dad, I let them video call. During visitation, Ria’s dad shows me photos and videos, and I noticed a new scooter she hadn’t had before. He bought it for her, so I let her ride it with him,” updating her current efforts to maintain some interaction as co-parents.

In 2021, Ben married Lee Wook, chairman of the W Foundation, and they have one daughter. However, in February this year, after three years of marriage, they divorced. At the time, Ben’s side revealed that the reason for the divorce was due to her ex-husband’s faults.
