Famous Girl Group Members Coolly Admit To Past ‘Fights’ Within The Group, Explain Why It Didn’t Affect Them
SISTAR’s Soyou coolly acknowledged the past rumors of fights with Hyolyn during their group activities on the show “Jjannhyung.”
Recently, SISTAR members Bora and Soyou appeared as guests on the YouTube channel “Jjannhyung Shin Dong Yup.”
The members revealed that during their idol days, they each listed their age as one year younger. Bora said, “It was really uncomfortable. When I met friends my age on shows, those born in 1990 would speak informally to me thinking we were the same age, so I had to explain I was actually born in 1989.”
Soyou added, “I never explained my age. When we were preparing for ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships,’ a member from another group was talking to me and said, ‘Oh, you’re younger? Call me unnie.’ So I said, ‘Yes, unnie,’ and avoided her from then on. I couldn’t say those things back then.”
Bora expressed frustration over misconceptions, saying, “People saw us as intimidating and thought we would try to dominate other groups, but we never did that.” Soyou agreed, saying, “That’s why there were so many rumors. Things like ‘they hit someone’ or ‘they tried to assert dominance’—but it never happened. There were even jokes that our van would shake when we fought, so we said, ‘That’s why we don’t ride the van.’”
Bora then brought up a recent rumor: “I heard not long ago that Hyolyn hit Soyou, and Soyou said something back.” Soyou responded with a laugh, saying, “It makes sense that there would be such rumors about me and Hyolyn unnie. We’re always messing around with each other.”
Bora added, “Among ourselves, we were comfortable enough that harsh words didn’t hurt. So in the broadcast station waiting rooms, we’d say whatever to each other, but it wasn’t offensive to us. But others who saw it would think, ‘Why are they fighting? What’s wrong with them?’”
Soyou clarified, “Unnie and Dasom didn’t really say harsh things to me.” But Bora pointed out, “Still, it all gets grouped under SISTAR. People just say, ‘That’s how SISTAR is.’ And honestly, I think we did help spark that perception a bit.”
