Beloved Veteran Korean Singer Passes Away

Song Dae Gwan has passed away on February 7 at the age of 79.

According to reports, he visited Seoul National University Hospital’s emergency room due to health issues the day before and died suddenly from cardiac arrest.

Song Dae Gwan was actively performing until his passing. On January 17, he appeared in the Seoul Seongdong-gu episode of KBS1’s National Singing Contest, performing alongside fellow singers Park Hye Shin, Wink, Hong Ji Yoon, and Jeon Jong Hyuk.

He had also recorded episodes for National Singing Contest in Dangjin City and Yeongdeungpo-gu in October of last year. These episodes are scheduled to air on February 16 and March 2, respectively, making them his final television appearances.

A source told Spotv News, “He had no particular underlying health condition. He passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at the hospital. We were informed by the hospital without any prior warning.”

The funeral is being held at Seoul National University Hospital’s funeral hall.

Song Dae Gwan debuted in 1967 with “A Kind-hearted Uncle” and rose to fame in 1975 with “A Bright Sunny Day.” He solidified his position as a hitmaker with several hit songs, he was known as one of the “Four Kings of Trot.”
