Stalkers Of NCT And EXO Fined By Police For Stealing Personal Information Of Members
Stalkers who stole personal information of EXO and NCT members have been fined.
On the 10th of July, SM Entertainment announced the results of the prosecution regarding the act of stealing personal information related to EXO and NCT on the tip-off website ‘Gwangya 119’.
In April of last year, some stalkers impersonated delivery drivers during a live broadcast on Twitter and publicly disclosed the artists’ personal information.
SM filed a complaint for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, among other charges.
The police identified four specific suspects, and two of them who directly called the artists were sent to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.
The defendants admitted to all the charges. Both defendants were sentenced to a fine of 3 million won [over $2000] each.
SM stated, “We deeply appreciate the reports from fans that provided significant support to take legal action against criminal acts targeting artists.”
The damage is ongoing. Victims have complained about unauthorized phone calls and visits to their homes after discovering the artists’ phone numbers and addresses.
The agency stated, “Artists have endured pain due to their celebrity status, but they are currently suffering from severe mental distress. These are serious criminal acts.”
They plan to respond with a zero-tolerance policy, stating, “Immediately cease any actions that invade the artists’ privacy” and “be cautious not to be involved in unfortunate incidents.”
