Starship Staff Member Shockingly Shares AI deepfake Image of IVE’s Yujin, Agency Issues Apology
Starship Entertainment has issued an apology regarding the controversy surrounding the sharing of a deepfake photo of their artist, IVE’s Ahn Yujin.
On January 15, Starship released a statement on their official social media accounts, saying, “We sincerely apologize to our artist Ahn Yujin, who must have been deeply hurt, and to the fans for this incident, which resulted from the grave negligence of one of our staff members managing the Chinese SNS account.”
The controversy arose when Starship’s official Chinese Weibo account reposted an AI-generated deepfake image of Ahn Yujin, sparking criticism and concern from fans and the public. Fans were shocked to see how the image was shared and criticism ensued as many did not believe it to be a simple mistake.
Fans have been demanding a response from Starship regarding this post for some time.
