Beloved Korean Singer Cancels Scheduled Appearances After The Sudden Tragic Passing Of Kim Sae Ron, Her Close Friend

AKMU’s Lee Suhyun, who was previously announced as a special guest at Onew’s concert, has unexpectedly withdrawn from the event.

On February 20, Onew’s team announced via official social media, “Lee Suhyun, who was scheduled to appear as a guest at the February 21 (Friday) performance, will unfortunately be unable to attend.”

They added, “We sincerely apologize to the audience who were looking forward to Onew and Lee Suhyun’s amazing stage together. We will do our best to present an even better performance. We ask for your understanding once again.”

Onew is set to hold his solo concert “CONNECTION” from February 21 to 23 at the Olympic Hall in Seoul’s Olympic Park. The lineup of special guests had been revealed over three days—Lee Suhyun for the first night, Giriboy on February 22, and Sunwoo Jung A for the final show on February 23—promising a diverse and exciting performance.

However, with Lee Suhyun’s sudden withdrawal, some speculate that her decision may be linked to the passing of her close friend, the late Kim Sae Ron, and that she may be struggling with her condition as a result.

On February 16, Kim Sae Ron was found deceased in her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at approximately 4:54 PM, shocking the public. Her funeral was held at Asan Medical Center’s funeral hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, where fellow celebrities came to pay their respects. AKMU’s Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun were also seen attending the wake.

Lee Suhyun had previously spoken multiple times about her close friendship with the late actress. In 2021, on a JTBC’s variety show, she shared, “We’ve been close for about four to five years. Kim Sae Ron, Kim Bora, and I would meet often, even without making plans. We were so close that we even shared our home passcodes in our group chat. When they came over, Bora would clean and take out the trash, Sae Ron would cook… and I would just laze around like a grasshopper,” bringing laughter at the time.

Lee Suhyun and Kim Sae Ron had maintained their friendship since the latter’s time under YG Entertainment. Reports state that Lee Suhyun was seen crying for a long time at the funeral, further adding to the sorrow.
