Sung Si Kyung Under Fire For Allegedly Operating His One-Person Agency Illegally, Agency Explains What Happened
Singer Sung Si Kyung has released an official statement regarding the controversy that he operated a one-person agency illegally.
On September 16, Sung Si Kyung’s agency SK Jaewon told Newsen about the unregistered operation as a pop culture and arts planning business, “Our company established the corporation in February 2011 in accordance with the laws at that time. Later, in January 2014, the Pop Culture and Arts Industry Development Act was enacted, and the obligation to register as a pop culture and arts planning business was newly established and implemented.”
The agency stated, “Our company did not recognize this registration obligation regulation, and as a result, we could not proceed with the registration procedure. We deeply apologize for the lack of awareness and preparation regarding the relevant law. As soon as we recognized this fact, we have been carrying out the registration procedure, and we are doing our best to complete all procedures quickly and to faithfully fulfill the legal requirements.”
They added, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern with this matter and will thoroughly comply with related laws in the future and operate with greater responsibility.”
SK Jaewon, to which Sung Si Kyung belongs, is an agency established by Sung Si Kyung’s older sister in 2011. According to the registration status of pop culture and arts planning businesses with local governments, SK Jaewon is not registered as a pop culture and arts planning business.
A pop culture and arts planning business is an industry that handles management and exclusive contracts for pop culture artists such as singers, actors, models, and broadcasters. Legally, registration is required for legitimate operation, and operating without registration may result in imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
If one registers only as a performance planning business and then carries out management work, this is considered unregistered pop culture and arts planning business operation.
