Super Junior’s Siwon Issues Response To Explain Why He Mourned Charlie Kirk
Super Junior member Choi Siwon has explained to fans why he mourned American Far-right Charlie Kirk.
Recently, Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative youth organization “Turning Point USA,” was shot and killed by an assailant at an event at Utah Valley University.
After his passing, Siwon became one of the few Korean celebrities to publicly post not one but two stories mourning the passing of Charlie, which gained massive responses among fans ranging from praise to criticism.
Those who criticized Siwon brought up Charlie’s past. He is known for promoting conservative and pro-Trump politics and is known for his Islamophobic, racist, and homophobic remarks. He was also notably against gun control.
Due to the backlash Siwon received for the posts, he’s since deleted them. He has also since taken to Bubble to explain his side of the story and why he posted those two posts. He wrote,
First of all, to our beloved fans!
There have been many stories related to the remembrance of Charlie Kirk, so I will explain.
He was a Christian, the head of a family, and one person’s husband. Regardless of the situation, the fact that he lost his life during a lecture in front of countless college students due to a shooting was such a heartbreaking tragedy beyond political inclination. That is why I mourned him.
After posting, I was thankful for the much attention from the media, but since it seemed my intention was being interpreted differently by the media and others, I judged that my insufficient heart was sufficiently conveyed and took the post down.
However, since even now I am still receiving much attention, I am explaining like this.
What do you think of Siwon’s explanation? Do you think the backlash is warranted?
