T.O.P’s Fan Photo Exhibition Canceled After Low Reservations, Is It Backlash From Confirming He’s Dating Nana?
A fan photo exhibition for singer and actor T.O.P (38, real name Choi Seung Hyun), who recently delivered news of his relationship, has been canceled.
On October 4, T.O.P’s domestic fan site Choi Seung Hyun.com posted a notice on its official SNS saying, “We have had no choice but to cancel the exhibition that was scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 1.”
Choi Seung Hyun.com said, “We have planned events based on the actual attendance at previous events each year. Especially this year, considering the ongoing tour schedule and the various circumstances of our fans, we scaled down from previous years and prepared the exhibition for a total of 300 people across both days,” adding, “However, after reservations opened, the actual number of applicants remained at about 25% of the expected scale,” meaning there were fewer than 100 applicants.
It continued, “Even so, since we had already completed the venue rental contract and deposit payment, we wanted to keep our promise to those who made reservations and hold the exhibition as scheduled, even if it meant bearing additional costs and losses. However, from yesterday until today, cancellation requests from existing reservation holders continued, and the expected number of attendees dropped to about 10 to 15% of the number originally planned per day.”
It added, “We reviewed several possible options to hold the exhibition somehow, but we determined that it would be difficult to run the exhibition normally in the form and scale originally planned and prepared with the current number of attendees,” and said, “After much deliberation, we ultimately made the difficult decision to cancel the exhibition.”
Choi Seung Hyun.com also said, “We are well aware that many overseas fans were planning to visit Korea for this exhibition. We judged that notifying everyone as quickly as possible, rather than delaying the decision further, would reduce even a little of the additional inconvenience and losses related to travel plans such as flights and accommodations,” adding, “Since this is an exhibition we prepared for a long time, this decision is also very regrettable and heavy-hearted for us. Above all, we sincerely apologize to everyone who made reservations and waited for the exhibition.”
The exhibition was to be the fan site’s first photo exhibition, prepared with inspiration from T.O.P’s first solo album “Another Dimension.” Until October 1, the fan site had been promoting the exhibition on its official SNS, but as reservations quickly dropped, the exhibition was ultimately canceled.
Following this, some are suggesting that the cancellation of T.O.P’s photo exhibition may be a “backlash” over his relationship being confirmed with singer and actress Nana. T.O.P and Nana confirmed they are dating on October 2. At the time, a T.O.P representative told News1, “The two first met and formed a connection through filming a music video, and later grew closer and developed into a romantic relationship.”
While many congratulated the new couple, some fans expressed disappointment that there wasn’t enough communication before the relationship announcement. Because reservation cancellations followed afterward, some see the exhibition cancellation as a “backlash” over the relationship being confirmed.
Meanwhile, T.O.P and Nana became a couple this past June and have been dating for 5 months.
