Ticket Scalpers Who Made Over Half A Million Dollars Selling G-Dragon And Other Famous Kpop Idols’ Concert Tickets Arrested
A ticket scalper who illegally purchased a large number of tickets to singer G-Dragon’s Taiwan concert and resold them at inflated prices has been caught.
According to Taiwanese media outlets China Times and Liberty Times on the 23rd of July, Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) announced that on the 22nd, four individuals—including a person surnamed Liu—were arrested for scalping tickets related to G-Dragon’s “Weverse Mensch” world tour concert held from July 11–13 at the Taipei Arena.
The CIB reported that after receiving a tip-off, they raided Liu’s base of operations on July 15 in coordination with local police and arrested the suspects. At the scene, they confiscated a list of serial numbers and over 1,000 physical tickets for G-Dragon’s concert, 1,500 ticket exchange slips, 500 tickets for BLACKPINK’s upcoming October concert in Kaohsiung, and NT$164,000 (approx. $561) in cash, among other pieces of evidence.
According to the bureau, Liu, who is in his 40s, worked with a Hong Kong-based ticketing engineer who used hacking programs and ID number/name generators to mass-purchase tickets. Liu then paid a fee of NT$2,000–3,000 (approx. $80 to $110) per ticket. He resold several ticket types for a minimum of approx. 2.58 million won [$1,883 ].
He also operated a professional setup from a nearby hotel, producing fake IDs for buyers to help them bypass the real-name ticketing system.
Previously, in March 2023, tickets for BLACKPINK’s concert in Taiwan, originally priced at about 410,000 KRW, were found to be resold for as much as 18.78 million KRW—about 45 times the face value—raising major concerns.
