Popular Kpop Idol Issues Apology After Receiving Backlash Over Behavior At Baseball Game

Popular Kpop idol Kevin of THE BOYZ has found himself at the center of controversy after baseball fans spotted the idol cheering for a team different from the one that had invited him to throw the first ceremonial pitch.

This happened on April 19 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. Kevin participated as the ceremonial batter in the game between Kiwoom Heroes and KT Wiz. During the game, a photo surfaced showing Kevin holding his phone with a message that read, “Hoping for the day I can sing the national anthem in my hometown Gwangju for KIA Tigers,” sparking controversy among Kiwoom fans.

Many baseball fans, then, criticized the idol for cheering on the opposing team and wondered why he’d pitch for a team different from the one he wanted to cheer for.

On April 22, Kevin of THE BOYZ issued an apology through the group’s official SNS. He wrote, “Hello, this is Kevin of THE BOYZ. First, I sincerely apologize to the baseball fans and THE B (fandom) who love the sport. On April 19, I was warmly welcomed by Kiwoom Heroes officials and was given a precious opportunity, for which I was grateful. However, I caused discomfort to many with my careless words and actions.”

He admitted, “During a meaningful moment marking the start of the game, I mentioned another team and acted thoughtlessly, which upset people. I’m truly sorry for that.”

Kevin added, “I have already apologized to member Eric, who placed great meaning in the ceremonial pitch, and I sincerely apologize again to Kiwoom Heroes fans. Through this incident, I’ve learned how much impact words and actions can have. I will be more careful moving forward. I am sorry”
