Taeil’s 1st trial has been held earlier today!

On the 18th of June, the first trial for Taeil and two others charged with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (aggravated quasi-rape) was held.

Taeil, who appeared in court with the two other defendants, admitted to all charges. Prosecutors requested seven years in prison for each of them, along with a 10-year employment restriction.

According to the prosecution, on June 13 last year around 2:33 a.m., Taeil and two acquaintances met the victim by chance at a bar in Itaewon and drank together. They then put the victim in a taxi and moved to a residence in Bangbae-dong. From around 4:00 to 4:30 a.m., the defendants allegedly raped the victim, who was unconscious due to heavy intoxication. Since more than two individuals were involved in sexually assaulting someone who was in a state of incapacity, aggravated quasi-rape charges were applied.

The Seoul Bangbae Police Station requested arrest warrants for the three in June 2024, but the court dismissed the request, citing that the suspects admitted to the crime and that there was insufficient need for detention. It is reported that there are no other celebrities involved in the incident besides Taeil.

Taeil debuted in 2016 with NCT’s first unit, NCT U, and was active in both NCT and NCT 127. However, due to the incident, Taeil not only left the group but was also removed from his agency, SM Entertainment. SM stated, “Taeil’s exclusive contract was terminated as of October 15, 2024. He is currently under investigation by the prosecution for a criminal case, which constitutes grounds for termination under the contract. As such, we have mutually agreed to end the exclusive contract due to a loss of trust as an artist.”
