A Chinese mukbang creator’s death from overeating has shocked many, and the story has made headlines in South Korea too!
On the 18th of July, Chinese foreign media reported that mukbang star Pan Xiaoting unexpectedly passed away during a live broadcast on the 14th.
The shock was amplified by reports that ‘overeating’ was a potential cause of death. According to local media, Pan Xiaoting’s autopsy revealed severe abdominal deformation and a stomach filled with undigested food.
It was reported that Pan Xiaoting had been engaging in extreme ‘mukbang challenges’ during his live broadcasts. He reportedly attempted to consume over 10 kg of food each meal for more than 10 hours daily.
Additionally, she had previously been hospitalized for gastric bleeding due to overeating, only to resume binge eating the day after being discharged.
