Twice’s Jeongyeon Officially Leaves JYP, Signs With Sister Gong Seungyeon’s Agency
Twice member Jeongyeon has signed an exclusive contract with VARO Entertainment, the agency of her older sister, actress Gong Seungyeon. With Jeongyeon’s move now confirmed, attention has turned to what the rest of the group’s members will decide going forward.
On August 10th, VARO Entertainment announced the news of Jeongyeon’s exclusive contract, stating, “Building on the global presence she’s built as an artist over many years, we will become a reliable partner who supports her generously across every area — both in her new challenge as an actress and in continuing her group activities smoothly.”
On the same day, Jeongyeon also posted a handwritten letter on her social media, writing, “Leaving a familiar place was scary, but I was able to find the courage because I have members who believed in me and Once (the fandom’s name). I’m more grateful than words can express to our members and Once, and I thank the JYP family who helped me grow.”
Jeongyeon said, “I’m moving to a new home and starting a new challenge, but Twice, which is the biggest center of who I am, will stay unchanged just as it is now, and standing in front of Once as a member of Twice will always come first.”
Jeongyeon debuted with Twice in 2015.
All members of Twice renewed their contracts together in 2022, but recently, rumors of contract renewal issues and potential agency transfers surfaced involving Jeongyeon as well as Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, and Jihyo. At the time, JYP addressed the rumors, stating, “Twice is currently in the contract renewal discussion period. We will provide an update as soon as matters are confirmed.”
In the midst of this, Jihyo, around whom rumors of setting up her own independent agency had circulated, wrote through a fan communication platform last month, “As the one in charge of my own life, I’ll think it through carefully and make a wise choice,” adding, “I hope Once will cheer for me and believe in me as they always have” — comments that added weight to the possibility of her parting ways with JYP.
