An upcoming Kpop audition program titled “Under 15” is facing immense backlash for its premise and for the age of its contestants.

The program features contestants under 15 years old as the name suggests. The ages of the contestants range from 8 to 15 at most with various nationalities. The program aims to showcase their talents so they could become Gen alpha superstars.

The number of contestants is 59, and one of the contestants is as young as 8 and 9 years old, born in 2016 and with their birthdays yet to pass, so some of them are even 8 years old.

The production team says the young girls are talented, strong willed and want to “shatter prejudices and concerns of adults who say they’re too young to debut.” As you’d expect, the show has gotten immense backlash from both Korean and international netizens who expressed shock at the producers for featuring such young kids on a competition show.

MBN’s ‘Under 15’ is scheduled to premiere on March 31.
