Famous Girl Group Member Breaks Down In Tears Wishing She Could Return To Their Peak Days
MAMAMOO’s Wheein has spoken about the group’s peak days.
Scenes from Wheein’s recent live broadcast on a fan community platform have been shared on various online communities, sparking controversy. Last month, Wheein turned on a live broadcast, ate on camera in comfortable clothes, and communicated with fans. During the stream, she said she cries easily in general and began opening up about her inner thoughts.
She said, “I get really emotional during tours. I think about a lot of things. Things I never thought about in my early to mid 20s. The time when MAMAMOO was at its peak. I often think about wanting to go back to that time. Honestly, there were times back then when I really hated it. Because it was so hard. People need rest to feel the precious things that come in between, but when everything is rushing at you, you often pass by what you gain without realizing it.”
She continued, “There was no room to breathe. Thinking about it now, it was hard but also fun. I think I miss it. The time when we were most active. If you told me to go back now, I wonder if I could do it that much. When I drink alone, I play old MAMAMOO videos. I think that’s my drunken habit. I watch them and cry alone,” as she shed tears.

Wheein also revealed, “Back then, I told Kim Shin Young that I wanted to quit. But Shin Young said, ‘Even if you want to quit, a day will definitely come when you miss these days.’ Honestly, I didn’t understand it at the time. She said I would definitely miss it. I really feel those words now,” as she struggled with her emotions.
Netizens who watched the video reacted with comments such as “She’s the one who didn’t renew her contract,” “It doesn’t really resonate with me,” “Was she drinking?” “Her emotions are like a roller coaster,” “Then why didn’t she renew?” “Is MAMAMOO disbanding?” “She even cried,” and “Isn’t MAMAMOO still at their peak now?”
MAMAMOO debuted in 2014 as a four-member group made up of Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa and has been loved for their outstanding vocals. Wheein left the agency after her contract expired in 2021, and Hwasa followed by moving to P NATION in 2023 without renewing her contract. After the two members’ moves, MAMAMOO ended their group activities with “Illella” in 2022, and the members have been focusing on their solo careers.
Meanwhile, MAMAMOO, who reunited after 4 years, is currently holding their world tour “MAMAMOO 2026 WORLD TOUR [4WARD].” After stopping in Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo on October 25, they will wrap up in Taipei on November 28 and 29.
