Former Idol Of One Of The Biggest OG Girl Groups Mourns Charlie Kirk, Deletes Posts + Issues Statement Due To The Backlash

Former member of the OG girl group Wonder Girls Sunye has paid tribute to the late American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. After receiving backlash, she deleted the initial post and has since issued an explanation to defend herself.

On September 16, Sunye took to Instagram to mourn the passing of Charlie Kirk. She shared a video to her stories and wrote a Bible verse mourning him. Her post triggered immense debate and some backlash among both domestic and international kpop fans. She then quickly deleted the post, which got her more heat as people debated why she’d backtrack after the story she posted.

On September 17, Sunye posted a very long statement to her Instagram stories to explain her side and push back against the backlash she received.

She said,

I posted a tribute on my story with a heavy heart, as a person who is also living as a mother, after watching a video containing a wife’s appeal about her husband’s tragic shooting death. People I don’t even know come to my space to curse at me, express anger over political issues, and even mention Wonder Girls,” and asked, “Why go that far?”
One person has died, and there is a heart of mourning. Then are you all laughing with a feeling of ‘good for him’ about one person’s death? Are you angry because I am not staying silent?
I hope you do not get upset about my responding with ‘delete and block’ to the comments from people who come to my space and fill this space with words that are not beautiful.”

Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a supporter of Donald Trump, was a controversial figure due to his views on guns, abortion, and LGBTQ rights.
