Will X1 follow in Wanna One’s footsteps and make a return?

On the 22nd of January, a media outlet reported that former Mnet producer Ahn Jun Young recently met with several X1 members and proposed their participation in a reality variety program.

According to the report, the project is still in the discussion stage, and its broadcast has not been confirmed.

However, Xportsnews confirmed that most agencies representing X1 members stated, “We have not heard anything at all.”

Previously, news broke that Wanna One, another boy group formed through the “Produce” series, would reunite through a reality program for the first time in seven years. At the time, Mnet commented, “We are preparing with the goal of releasing it in the first half of this year. We will announce specific scheduling and details once they are finalized.”

This naturally sparked interest in a possible X1 reunion as well, but the likelihood of it actually happening is considered extremely low.

X1 is often referred to as one of K-pop’s “unluckiest idols.” In 2019, Ahn Jun Young PD was sentenced to two years in prison for manipulating rankings across four seasons of the “Produce” series and receiving entertainment and hospitality worth approximately 37 million won over more than 40 occasions from entertainment agency officials.

As Ahn Jun Young’s arrest coincided with X1’s promotional period following their formation through the fourth season, “Produce X 101,” the group was forced to disband just five months after debut.

Since then, the members have gone on to re-debut under their original agencies or pursue careers as solo artists and actors.

Ahn Jun Young PD completed his two-year prison sentence and was released in November 2021. He later rejoined Mnet in April 2023 but is reported to have since left the company.
