EXID Hani’s Fiance Psychiatrist Confirms A Patient Died In His Practice’s Care, Issues Apology That Was Met With Severe Backlash From The Victim’s Family
EXID Hani’s Fiance Psychiatrist and broadcaster Yang Jae Woong has confirmed his practice is the one that was mentioned in the recent shocking news.

The SBS report about Yang Jae Woong’s hospital
According to the Bucheon Wonmi Police Station, a woman in her 30s, identified as A, died on May 27 at around 3:30 a.m. at a hospital in Bucheon, 17 days after being admitted. A’s cause of death was presumed to be a pseudo-intestinal obstruction, and she had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of diet pill addiction containing narcotics.
A had difficulty with bowel movements and experienced intermittent abdominal pain after admission. On the day before her death, she complained of severe abdominal pain. A was seen clutching her stomach and knocking on the isolation room door, but the nursing assistant and guardian gave her a sedative and tied her hands and feet to the bed. An hour later, despite her abdomen being swollen and bleeding from her nose, they only untied her restraints and took no further action. A eventually lost consciousness and died.
The incident drew further attention when it was revealed that the hospital is run by Yang Jae Woong, a famous broadcaster, and that he announced his marriage to former EXID member Hani (Ahn Hee-yeon) four days after the incident. Hani’s social media was flooded with critical comments.
Yang Jae Woong’s response and apology
On the 29th of July, Yang Jae Woong, through his agency Mystic Story, stated, “Regarding the incident that occurred during the hospitalization process, I and the former medical staff cannot hide our dismay and sincerely apologize to the bereaved family who must be grieving the loss of the deceased and their family member.”
Yang Jae Woong continued, “This incident occurred at a hospital where I am the representative. As the director of Wjin Hospital, I take this incident very seriously. We are doing our best to cooperate with external agencies by providing medical charts and CCTV footage that capture the situation at the time.”
He also promised, “Not only I, as the hospital director, but all the medical staff will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation and will take responsibility based on medical and legal judgments.”
The victim’s mother shares her side of the story
However, the victim’s mother expressed her anger on the 30th of July, telling Hankyoreh, “He knew the family’s phone number but never apologized or came forward, and only told us to speak through a lawyer. Now that the case is in the media, he is engaging in media play.”
She added, “When I was protesting in front of the hospital yesterday morning, he walked by without even glancing at me. This is not a sincere apology, and I cannot accept it.”
K-netizens critical comments about Yang Jae Woong and Hani’s wedding announcement
Netizens reacted strongly to the news that he announced a joyous event shortly after the death. The woman had died on May 27, but Hani and Yang Jae Woong had announced their wedding plans on May 31st, mere couple of days after the woman’s untimely death.
Netizens said, “Announcing a celebration right after someone died,” “How could he announce a wedding three days after the death?” and “Imagine if it were your daughter.”
They also criticized Yang Jae Woong’s apology, with comments like, “Did he apologize only because the news came out?” “Ignoring the protest and not apologizing?” and “Apologizing to the media, not the family?”
The police, who received the report from the family, are investigating Yang Jae Woong and the hospital staff for medical law violations.
