OG Kpop Idol Explains Why His Group Disbanded And How They Ultimately Reunited
Singer and actor Yoon Kye Sang opened up about the heartfelt story behind g.o.d’s disbandment and reunion.
In a video released on July 17 on the YouTube channel Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time, Yoon Kye Sang was asked, “Why did the hugely popular group g.o.d disband?” He responded, “To put it simply, we were too pure and got swayed a lot by the influence of the adults around us. Because of that, misunderstandings piled up, and we eventually split.”
However, the g.o.d members came back together over time. Yoon explained, “The biggest reason was Kim Tae Woo’s determination. We reconnected through the program One Table, and as we talked, the misunderstandings naturally cleared up. Two years later, we released a full-member album.”
He added, “It was something that could’ve been resolved so easily… As we got older, we began to understand each other,” expressing both regret and a warm sense of reconciliation.
Still, stepping back onto the stage wasn’t easy for Yoon. He confessed, “I was harshly criticized due to the misunderstanding that I left g.o.d to pursue acting. I was terrified of going back on stage. I felt like people hated me.”
He continued, “But when the stage opened during our first concert and I heard the fans cheering, everything disappeared. I cried so much. That day, I truly felt that doing this again was the right decision.”
Meanwhile, Yoon Kye Sang registered his marriage with Cha Hye Young, who is five years younger than him, in 2021, and they held their wedding in 2022.
