“You Ugly B*Tch,” Former Kpop Idol Reveals She Was Verbally Abused By Camera Director
Nam Ji Hyun, former member of the girl group 4Minute, said she was verbally abused by a camera director while filming a drama.
On the 3rd of March, Nam Ji Hyun appeared on Hwang Bo Ra’s YouTube channel to talk about her life in the entertainment industry. Currently, Nam Ji Hyun works as a barre (Pilates + ballet) instructor, and Hwang Bo Ra went to take barre lessons from her.
After the class, the two discussed their experiences in the entertainment industry. Hwang Bo Ra said, “Back in our day, it was really tough. We had to be on standby 24 hours a day.”
When Nam Ji Hyun responded, “Back then, the environment itself wasn’t upgraded,” Hwang Bo Ra said, “Going through that makes me appreciate being able to work in such good conditions these days.”
Nam Ji Hyun then asked, “Have you ever been verbally abused by directors?”
Hwang Bo Ra replied, “Back then, there was a lot of cursing.”
Nam Ji Hyun shared her experience: “During my first drama while promoting with 4Minute, the camera director said to me, ‘Hey, you ugly b***h, stand in front.’”
She continued, “I thought, ‘I’ll overcome this with positive energy,’ and responded, ‘Yes, your ugly b***h is coming.’”
She added, “Then the camera director said, ‘Ha ha, look at this b***h.’ Later, he apologized, saying he didn’t know I was from 4Minute and thought I was a rookie actress, so he was trying to build my courage.”
Hwang Bo Ra commented, “Nowadays, that kind of thing would be unimaginable.”
Fans were shocked to hear this and wondered how much K-pop idols and rookie actors have to put up with in order to debut and thrive in the industry.
