Famous Former Married Kpop Couple Fail To Reach Agreement Over Children’s Custody, Lawsuit Proceedings Inevitable
Former LABOUM member Yulhee (birth name Kim Yulhee, 27) and ex-husband FTISLAND’s Choi Min Hwan (32) mediation attempts have failed, making a lawsuit inevitable.
According to the legal community on the 14th of March, Judge Kang Yoon Hye of the Seoul Family Court’s 12th Family Division held a mediation session on the 12th regarding Kim’s petition against Choi for changes in parental authority and custody but ruled that mediation was unsuccessful.
A mediation request is a procedure that allows disputes to be settled through agreement without a formal trial. Since the mediation failed, the case is expected to proceed to a formal lawsuit. The court division and trial date for their case have not yet been assigned.
Kim and Choi married in 2018 and had one son and twin daughters. However, they finalized their divorce by mutual agreement in December 2023. At that time, they agreed not to exchange any financial compensation regarding alimony or property division, and full custody and parental rights were granted to Min Hwan.
However, Yulhee later claimed that Min Hwan broke their agreement after allegations surfaced in October last year, accusing him of visiting an illegal prostitution establishment. The police investigated Min Hwan over violations of the Prostitution Punishment Act and allegations of sexual misconduct but concluded there was insufficient evidence to support the claims, ultimately clearing him of the charges.
In November last year, Yulhee filed for custody modification and parental authority changes at the Seoul Family Court. Reports indicate that she requested 100 million won in alimony, 1 billion won in property division, and full custody and parental rights.
