Disney+ Confirms Its 1st Ever Historical Kdrama Starring Shin Ye Eun, Park Seo Ham, Rowoon And Park Ji Hwan

Disney+ is set to release its first-ever original Korean historical drama series.

The platform announced that “The Murky Stream” (directed by Choo Chang Min) will premiere exclusively in 2025.

The series is set in Joseon, where the once-clear waters of the Gyeonggang River have turned murky, symbolizing a lawless era. It follows the turbulent destinies of three individuals: Siyul (played by Rowoon), who hides his past to become a local ruffian; Choi Eun (Shin Ye Eun), a righteous and savvy merchant; and Jeong Cheon (Park Seo Ham), an aspiring honest official.

Directed by Choo Chang Min, who previously helmed the 2012 blockbuster Masquerade (which drew 12 million viewers), this marks his debut in a series format. Renowned writer Chun Sung Il, known for works like the drama Chuno, the OTT series All of Us Are Dead, and the The Pirates movie series, brings his storytelling expertise to the project, further raising expectations.

The star-studded cast adds to the buzz. Rowoon takes on his most rugged role yet as Jang Siyul, a ruffian at the Mapo port. Shin Ye Eun plays Choi Eun, a bold and tenacious merchant leading Joseon’s top trading group. Park Seo Ham, beloved for his role in Semantic Error, makes a long-awaited comeback and takes on his first historical drama as Jeong Cheon, a virtuous police officer combating corruption. Lastly, acclaimed actor Park Ji Hwan brings his unique intensity to the role of Moo Deok, a ruffian maintaining order at the Mapo port.
