Ha Young Steps Down From Hit Netflix Series Amid Controversy

Actress Ha Young is stepping down from the upcoming season of Netflix’s “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” in the wake of the ongoing controversy over her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese wartime activities.

According to a report by ‘MyDaily’ on September 1st, Ha Young has been confirmed to step away from the new season of “The Trauma Code,” which is set to begin filming in October.

There had previously been speculation that filming would move forward without Ha Young leaving the project, but it’s been reported that she was the one who first informed the production team she would be unable to continue.

In response to the report, Netflix confirmed her departure, stating, “Ha Young has decided not to appear in the follow-up to ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,’ and we respect her decision.”

“The Trauma Code” follows genius trauma surgeon Baek Kang Hyuk (played by Ju Ji Hoon), who is deployed to revive a trauma team in name only after his time on the battlefield. Riding on the success of Season 1, production of Seasons 2 and 3 moved forward, with filming originally set to begin this October — not long after Netflix issued a statement addressing earlier reports that Ha Young would return for the new seasons.

Ju Ji Hoon, Choo Young Woo, Ha Young, and Yoon Kyung Ho were among the existing cast set to return, but Ha Young has now stepped down following the pro-Japanese collaboration controversy surrounding her great-grandfather that broke out last month.

Ha Young had previously mentioned on a variety show that her family included four generations of doctors, which led to the discovery of her great-grandfather An Sang Ho’s activities during the Japanese colonial era and sparked the controversy. Her agency initially denied the allegations before reversing its stance and confirming the reports, and Ha Young herself also directly addressed the matter, reflecting on her lack of careful research into her own family history.
