JTBC Shares Footage Of The Late Director Kim Changmin’s Assault Which Caused His Death, Netizens Outraged Over Police Progress
Amid the tragic death of the late Director Kim Changmin due to assault, a video showing the situation at the time has been released, causing shock.
Previously, we reported that the cause of the late Director Kim Changmin was revealed. It was revealed that he died due to a brain hemorrhage caused by assault.
According to reports from Yonhap News on the 31st of March, Director Kim visited a restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province in the early hours of October 20th of the same year with his son. His son wanted to eat pork cutlet, which led them to visit the restaurant at an early hour. The son is known to have autistic tendencies.
However, during the meal, a dispute arose with other customers in the restaurant over noise and other issues, which eventually escalated into a physical fight. Director Kim was knocked to the floor due to the assault and was transported to the hospital but ultimately did not regain consciousness.
The family has publicly expressed their their frustration with the investigation and the little progress it had achieved.
Then, JTBC reported footage from the incident that occurred in the early hours of October 20 last year at a 24-hour restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province. The released video shows Director Kim Changmin being caught in a dispute and subjected to group assault while dining with his son, who has a developmental disability.
In the video, Director Kim is seen being struck in the face by the attacker’s fist and collapsing to the floor, but the attackers did not stop the assault. Instead, they were even seen dragging him around while he was down and continuing to inflict further harm.
Director Kim was only transported to the hospital about an hour after the assault occurred, and he was eventually declared brain-dead. He later passed away after saving four lives through organ donation.
The police identified only one of the attackers and applied for an arrest warrant on charges of injury resulting in death, but the prosecution returned it, requesting supplementary investigation. Afterward, the police identified an additional suspect through reinvestigation and reapplied for the warrant, but the Uijeongbu District Court Namyangju Branch dismissed it, stating there was no risk of flight and that the suspect had a fixed residence.
The deceased’s younger sister said,“(The attacker) lives within less than 10 km. Knowing that and continuing to live like this is very frightening for us.”
Eventually, the police forwarded the attackers to the prosecution last week without detention.
Meanwhile, Director Kim, born in 1985, entered the film industry in 2013 as part of the props team for the movie “The Suspect.” He later worked on the animation team for films such as “Colonel Kim Changsoo” (2017), “The Drug King” (2018), and “The Witch” (2018). He steadily built his filmography by directing works like “No One’s Daughter” (2016) and “Guui Station Exit 3” (2019).
