Jung Il Woo Seen Breaking Down In Tears At The Funeral Of The Late Lee Soon Jae
Actor Jung Il Woo broke down in tears and sobbed at the farewell ceremony for the late Lee Soon Jae.
At 5:30 a.m. on the 27th of November, the farewell ceremony and cremation of the national actor, the late Lee Soon Jae, were held at Seoul Asan Hospital’s funeral hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Many fellow actors, both seniors and juniors, attended the ceremony. Jeong Bo Seok from MBC’s legendary sitcom “High Kick Through the Roof” served as the master of ceremonies, while Kim Young Chul and Ha Ji Won each delivered eulogies. Also in attendance were Jung Il Woo and Jung Joon Ha from “Unstoppable High Kick,” as well as Jeong Dong Hwan, Yoo Dong Geun, Choi Soo Jong, Lee Won Jong, Kim Na Woon, and former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In Chon, among others, paying their respects to the late actor on his final journey.
Particularly, Jung Il Woo, who debuted through the 2006–2007 series “Unstoppable High Kick” and played Lee Soon Jae’s grandson, rose to stardom instantly through this work. Even after the series ended, the two often played golf together and met privately, maintaining a close bond. Upon hearing the tragic news, Jung Il Woo rushed to the funeral and attended the ceremony. Overcome with emotion during the service, he eventually broke down in tears, sobbing as if he were seeing off his actual grandfather, moving onlookers to sadness. For a while, he could not lift his head and wiped away his streaming tears.
Earlier, on the 26th, Jung Il Woo posted on his personal social media: “It was a true honor to take my first steps as an actor with you, Teacher. I will always remember the lessons and kindness you taught me and carry them forward on my path.” He added, “I regret that time passed without being able to visit you. I am deeply grateful for all the kindness you have shown me. I pray that you rest in peace. I love you, Grandfather,” sharing a photo of himself with Lee Soon Jae.
Lee Soon Jae passed away in the early hours of the 25th at the age of 91.
Following his passing, the government posthumously awarded him the Geumgwan Cultural Medal. After the farewell ceremony and cremation, Lee Soon Jae’s funeral procession proceeded to his final resting place at Eden Paradise in Icheon.
