KBS Cancels The 2024 KBS Drama Awards As Well As KBS 2025 Countdown Show
KBS has announced the cancellations of several of its anticipated events in light of the recent Jeju air tragedy.
The “2024 KBS Drama Awards” broadcast has been postponed and will be aired as a pre-recorded event.
According to reports from Spotv News on December 30, the awards ceremony, originally scheduled to air live on December 31, will instead be recorded and broadcast at a later date.
The decision was made following the Jeju Air crash tragedy, with the intent to honor the victims and express condolences to their families in a solemn and respectful manner. KBS announced the recording will proceed in a subdued atmosphere, with attendees dressed in black and white attire to reflect the somber tone.
On the same day, KBS also announced the cancellation of the “KBS 2025 Countdown Show: Right Now,” which was originally scheduled to take place on December 31 at the outdoor stage in front of the Shinsegae main branch in Myeong-dong, Seoul. The event was also set to be broadcast live on KBS2.
KBS stated, “We will be sending cancellation notices to audience members who were selected to attend. We sincerely ask for the understanding of K-pop fans and viewers who were looking forward to the show.”
On December 29, Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members from Bangkok to Muan, crashed into the runway’s outer wall during landing, resulting in a fire. The tragic accident claimed 179 lives, leaving only two survivors.
May their souls rest in peace.
