The 2024 MBC Entertainment Awards Cancels The Show All Together After Jeju Air Flight Crashes Claiming The Lives Of At Least 175 Passengers

A Jeju air flight has crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea earlier today leaving at least 176 dead, according to CNN.

The incident happened on 9 a.m. KST on December 29. The plane numbered 7C 2216 departed from Bangkok and was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The plane crashed and recovery of the dead bodies is proving difficult as the death toll keeps on rising. The shocking disaster is considered the deadliest aviation disaster to hit South Korea since 1997.

Per the CNN, the investigation into the crash could take up to 3 years and investigations are currently underway.

Due to this, mostly all broadcasts and TV shows have canceled their episodes for the next couple of days in mourning.

On the same day, an MBC representative told OSEN, “The ‘2024 MBC Entertainment Awards’ has been canceled. This decision was made urgently after thorough discussions on the matter,” providing an official statement.

Initially, MBC planned to host the awards ceremony at 8:30 PM that evening. The event was highly anticipated as a celebration of MBC entertainers in 2024, with Yoo Jae Suk, Jun Hyun Moo, Kian84, and Lee Jang Woo considered strong contenders for major awards.

Regarding the announcement of award winners, the MBC representative stated cautiously, “The disclosure of pre-determined winners will be decided after further discussions.”
