JTBC’s upcoming drama “Heavenly Ever After” has caused quite the stir as the drama began rolling out promotional material. It currently has the largest age gap between romantic on-screen couple in kdrama land, a shocking 42 years.
“Heavenly Ever After” revolves around a heartwarming romance that transcends life and death. The story begins when Lee Hae Sook (played by Kim Hye Ja), who arrives in heaven at 80 years old, reunites with her husband Go Nak Jun (played by Son Suk Ku), who has returned to his youthful 30s. The drama promises a unique blend of humor and heartwarming moments as Lee Hae Sook embarks on a dynamic second life in heaven.
Director Kim Seok Yoon, known for his well-crafted dramas like Hip Hop Teacher, The Light in Your Eyes, and Awl, reunites with writers Lee Nam Gyu and Kim Su Jin, raising expectations among drama fans. The stellar cast includes Kim Hye Ja, Son Suk Ku, Han Ji Min, Lee Jung Eun, Chun Ho Jin, and Ryu Deok Hwan, heightening anticipation.
In the drama, Kim Hye Ja plays Lee Hae Sook, a resilient woman who became the head of her household after her husband’s sudden accident. Even in heaven, she chooses to live as her current self at 80, recalling her husband’s words, “You were beautiful at 20, stunning at 40, but you’re the most beautiful now.” However, her reunion takes an unexpected turn when she finds her husband back in his 30s, and they start a new chapter in their marriage that blurs the line between heaven and a second chance at life.
Son Suk Ku plays Go Nak Jun, a devoted husband who became a heavenly postman delivering earthly wishes. While waiting for his wife, he builds a house in heaven, anticipating their reunion. Yet, his youthful appearance surprises Lee Hae Sook, leading to an unexpected second marriage in the afterlife.
The first teaser shows the couple’s reunion with a whimsical touch. Against the backdrop of a setting sun, Lee Hae Sook contemplates, “Is heaven real?” as she rides a train that crosses the boundary between life and death. Upon arrival, she chooses to stay in her 80-year-old form, only to be greeted by her husband in his 30s.
