The Identity Of The Actor Playing Soon Rok In “Yumi’s Cells 3” Has Been Revealed
We finally know who’ll play Yumi’s end game in “Yumi’s Cells 3” after Kim Go Eun was confirmed to return for the 3rd season!
Kim Jae Won has been confirmed as the lead actor in the upcoming TVING original series “Yumi’s Cells Season 3.”
“Yumi’s Cells Season 3” is an emotional romance that follows the continued growth of Yumi (played by Kim Go Eun), who returns as a star writer, and her ever-loyal cells who still only care about Yumi and nothing else. With Kim Go Eun reprising her iconic role as Yumi, the casting of rising youth star Kim Jae Won as ‘Soonrok’—a role that has drawn major public attention—has also been confirmed.
“Yumi’s Cells” earned praise for its innovative format that combined live-action with 3D animation for the first time in Korea. The story of Yumi’s journey in pursuit of love and dreams brought excitement, laughter, and heartfelt emotion across Seasons 1 and 2, and now the series is set to return with Season 3.
Previously, Yumi was an ordinary office worker who dreamed of becoming a writer. She eventually quit her job to fully commit to writing. The upcoming Season 3 will follow Yumi’s journey as she rises to become a star author after much hard work. Though she finds great success as a romance novelist who captures readers’ hearts, love remains the most difficult challenge for Yumi. With Cell Village seemingly in hibernation and nothing exciting happening in her life, the appearance of Soonrok (played by Kim Jae Won) brings a refreshing change.
Kim Jae Won takes on the role of Soonrok, the new editor at Julie Publishing who appears sweet but delivers blunt truths. Though he seems cold and logical—like he’s ruled only by his “rational cell”—he actually possesses surprising charm. Living a calm life following his own routine, Soonrok faces unexpected changes when he’s assigned to work with Yumi, whose emotional cells are in constant motion.
Kim Jae Won first drew attention through “Our Blues” and went on to become more widely known through “King the Land,” “Hierarchy,” and “The Tale of Mrs. Ok.” On joining the project, Kim said, “It’s an honor to join a well-loved series through such a great opportunity. I’ll do my very best to portray a wonderful Soonrok. I hope you’ll show lots of love for this project.”
“Yumi’s Cells Season 3” is scheduled to premiere on TVING in the first half of 2026.
