Actor Kim Soo Hyun Wins Lawsuit Over Advertising Contract Fee Dispute

Actor Kim Soo Hyun has won a lawsuit over the return of an advertising contract fee.

According to legal industry sources on September 11th, the Seoul Eastern District Court’s 13th Civil Division dismissed all claims in a lawsuit filed by a Swiss watch brand against Kim Soo Hyun seeking the return of a contract fee, in a ruling made on the 27th of last month.

As the watch brand did not file an appeal by the 10th, Kim Soo Hyun secured his first win in the advertising contract fee dispute. He will not be required to return the roughly 577 million won in advertising contract fees in question.

The watch brand had previously terminated its contract with Kim Soo Hyun last year, claiming his value as an advertising model had been damaged, and demanded the return of model fees corresponding to the remaining contract period.

Gold Medalist, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, argued in response that the controversy stemmed from a third party’s allegations and that Kim Soo Hyun bore no contractual responsibility.

The court ruled that there were no valid grounds for contract termination, siding with Kim Soo Hyun. As the watch brand did not appeal, the ruling has been finalized.

Kim Soo Hyun is currently active again, having moved past the personal controversy that once engulfed him. On the 23rd of last month, he appeared as a special guest on a live broadcast in Jakarta, Indonesia, celebrating RCTI’s 37th anniversary, and he is set to attend the “2026 The Fact Music Awards” as a presenter on the 19th.

With Kim Soo Hyun having moved past the personal allegations and now also winning the advertising contract fee lawsuit, his full return to domestic activities appears to be progressing quickly.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun also recently received a non-referral decision regarding allegations of violating the Child Welfare Act.
