Kim Young Kwang Reveals The Lengths He Went Through To Portray His Character In The Newest Hit Netflix Series “Trigger”
Actor Kim Young Kwang looked back on the time and effort he put into portraying the character Moon Baek.
Recently, Kim Young Kwang sat down for an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, to discuss his role as Moon Baek in Netflix’s Trigger.
Trigger is a gun-disaster action thriller that tells the story of two men who each take up arms for their own reasons, as untraceable illegal firearms begin circulating throughout South Korea and gun-related incidents continue to erupt. Moon Baek is a free-spirited character who, by chance, meets Lee Do (played by Kim Nam Gil), forming an unpredictable alliance.

Until the middle of the series, Moon Baek appears as a sly, charming, and loyal guy, but in the latter half, his true identity is revealed — he is the one who smuggled guns into South Korea and is the origin of the firearm delivery incidents. In addition, he is battling terminal cancer with just six months left to live, and as the story progresses, his physical and emotional deterioration becomes evident.
Kim Young Kwang shared, “As the story went on, I lost weight to gradually appear more gaunt. I made my eyes look sunken. I tried to look like someone who was physically weakening. I didn’t eat and worked out while running,” he said. “We also deepened the makeup step by step — even drew dark circles under my eyes. I wanted to show that Moon Baek’s time was coming to an end.”
He added, “I naturally have a lot of gray hairs, so I dye my hair often. For this role, I dyed it in a way that emphasized the graying even more to reflect his weakening condition.”
When asked what he would do if he, like Moon Baek, had only six months to live, Kim Young Kwang replied, “I think I’d spend the rest of my life traveling with my cats.”

Meanwhile, Trigger topped Netflix Korea’s “TOP 10 Series” upon release and reached 4th place in the “Global TOP 10 Non-English Series” within just three days, showing an enthusiastic response from viewers.
