Korean Actor Criticized For Telling His Fiancée He’s Liked Her For 20 Years Right After Marriage Announcement, Why?
Netizens have had mixed reactions after actor Lee Kyu Han told his soon-to-be wife, singer Solbi, “I’ve liked you since 20 years ago.”
On October 22, a video titled “Introducing My Groom-To-Be” was uploaded to Solbi’s channel “Solbi Is Back.” Appearing on camera for the first time since the marriage announcement, Lee Kyu Han greeted viewers by saying, “I didn’t know our marriage would become this big of a topic. I’m so moved.” The two recalled the dating show they appeared on together last year, “Old Encounter Pursuit,” and Solbi confessed about the mission of holding hands in the car, “The moment you pulled my hand toward you and held it, my heart really opened.”
Lee Kyu Han said he watched all of Solbi’s channel videos after the show ended, adding, “A subscriber like me just waits for the uploads.” When Solbi asked what he thought when he saw her content saying “I’ll get married within three years,” he answered, “I wondered if I had to wait three years.” He continued, “I was waiting for you back then too, and I’ve liked you since 20 years ago.”
Once the remark became known, Lee Kyu Han’s past public relationship was brought up again. In 2023, he confirmed he was dating Yujeong, formerly of the group Brave Girls, but the two broke up in 2024 after about a year. Some netizens expressed disappointment, saying, “He was publicly dating someone not long ago and now says he’s liked her for 20 years,” “The line is too light,” and “Isn’t the 20 years thing too much?”
On the other hand, supportive voices also followed, with comments such as “They look good together,” “I like how honest and straightforward he is,” “It’s for TV anyway, people are being too sensitive,” and “They’re close in age, so it seems like they found their perfect match.”
Lee Kyu Han and Solbi did not end up as the final couple on “Old Encounter Pursuit,” but developed into a couple after the show. The two will hold a private wedding in April next year with only both families, relatives, and close acquaintances invited. Lee Kyu Han vowed, “I will prepare well for the wedding without fighting and hold a beautiful ceremony.”
