Famous Korean Actor Shares Painful Memory Of Getting Dropped From A Role After The 1st Script Reading Session
Famous Korean Actor Namgoong Min has surprised fans by sharing a painful past story about getting dropped from a project following a script reading session.
On the upcoming 26th episode of SBS’s variety show Whenever There’s a Gap, airing on the 17th, actors Namgoong Min, Jeon Yeo-bin, and Lee Seol join Yoo Jae-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok as guests under the theme “Our Film.”
During the episode, Namgoong Min reflects on his past as an unknown actor. Speaking about his connection to Yeouido, he said, “I remember getting scolded a lot at the broadcasting stations here,” reminiscing about the struggles he faced in his early career. Yoo Jae-suk sympathized, saying, “Directors were really scary back then. You had a tough time for many years, too.”
Namgoong Min then shared, “There was a time when I got cut from a project right after the script reading.” The story was particularly striking, considering his current status as an award-winning actor. “We even had a meal after the reading, but I was the only one who got dropped. Watching the others on TV afterward really hurt,” he recalled.
He added, “When I see people at award shows who’ve also survived until now, I feel a certain connection, thinking, ‘You made it too.’” Yoo Jae-suk responded with heartfelt understanding, saying, “Maybe it’s because we went through hard times together—there’s a kind of camaraderie that comes with it.”
Yoo Yeon-seok also opened up about his early days and how he coped with rejection. “I have so many memories of auditioning in Yeouido,” he began. “After auditions, I’d walk this road to soothe my empty heart.” He shared how his manager used to comfort him during tough moments, saying, “If I was feeling down after an audition, my manager would ask, ‘Wanna go here?’ It was those little things that got me through.”
