Park Ji Hyun Makes History As First Korean Actress Nominated For An International Emmy Award

Actress Park Ji Hyun has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress at the International Emmy Awards for her role in Netflix’s “You and Everything Else,” making her the first Korean actress ever to receive an International Emmy acting nomination.

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 54th International Emmy Awards on September 23 (local time). This year’s nominations span 16 categories across 22 countries, totaling 64 nominees.

Park Ji Hyun made the final four for Best Performance by an Actress for her role as Cheon Sang Yeon in “You and Everything Else.” She’ll be competing for the award against Mona Mina Leon of Belgium, Barbara Mori of Mexico, and Sheridan Smith of the U.K.

“You and Everything Else,” released last September, starred Kim Go Eun as Ryu Eun Jung and Park Ji Hyun as Cheon Sang Yeon, portraying the relationship between two friends across the years as love, admiration, jealousy, and resentment intertwine. Park Ji Hyun played Sang Yeon’s life and emotional journey from her 20s through her 40s.

The nomination is also drawing attention because it shows the drama’s award momentum extending to individual acting recognition. “You and Everything Else” won Best Drama and Best Screenplay in the broadcast category at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards on May 8, and took home the equivalent of the grand prize, the Best Creative Award, at the Global OTT Awards held on June 20.

Another Korean project also picked up a nomination. The Disney+ series “Hyperknife,” starring Park Eun Bin and Sul Kyung Gu, was nominated in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category at the International Emmys, competing against Spain’s “The Anatomy of a Moment,” Brazil’s “Oxygen Mask Will Not Drop Down Automatically,” and the U.K.’s “Prisoner 951.”

Winners of the 54th International Emmy Awards will be announced at a ceremony held in New York on November 23.
