“You And Everything Else” Heartbreaking Ending Explained

Netflix has unveiled its newest Kdrama “You And Everything Else” earlier today. Below is a recap of the finale and the ending explained!

“You And Everything Else” episode 15 recap

Sang-Yeon collapses and is rushed to the hospital. There, the doctor tells Eun-Jung there is no chance of recovery and she’s dying.

She gets discharged, and the two go on a trip to the beach together to find her mother’s resting place. She fails and cannot remember it. She also gives her back the camera her brother originally intended for Eun-Jung.

As they go back and Eun-Jung brings her food from her mom, she eats it happily but sadly pukes it later. Eun-Jung finds out this is a daily occurrence. While Eun-Jung worked on her desk for a work related thing, she stumbles upon the email from the euthanasia clinic in Switzerland. She confronts her about it. Sang-Yeon explains she’s in a lot of pain and would’ve tried everything but nothing works. She wants to do this while she still can. She explains how when her mother died, she saw how draining that was and she doesn’t want to go through this.

At night, Eun-Jung talks to her friend who says she shouldn’t go citing just how sensitive she is and how this will haunt her. After thinking about it deeply, Eun-Jung decides to go with her to Switzerland.

Eun-Jung struggles with this a lot on her own and almost doesn’t make it to the airport but she decides to go with her.

There, they have lots of fun and go visit so many places, take cute photos and eat good food. They talk about everything and laugh a lot together. Sang-Yeon talks about how she got married, why she got divorced and how she thought a child would fix it until she found out she had cancer.

The two friends get visited by the euthanasia’s personnel who confirms she’s of sound mind making this decision on her own. They even visit her one last time. They even visit the place where she’ll get it done.

On her last night on earth, Sang-Yeon and Eun-Jung talk about how much they influenced each other’s lives and how much they shaped them. They talk and cry together but wake up for the final sunrise Sang-Yeon will see.

Later during the same day, Sang-Yeon hands her a key with access to her diary that she can with as she pleases. She then tells her to say goodbye here and that she doesn’t have to go with her there. Eun-Jung says she knows thats a lie and she wants her there. She goes with her.

They take her consent for this one final time and she administers the drug on herself while Eun-Jung is by her side who cries at it happens. Sang-Yeon breathes fast but suddenly, everything stops, Eun-Jung tells her that she did well and caresses her hair as she passes away.

We cut into the final scene of the drama, Eun-Jung standing in front of that same beach. In voiceover she says, “quite a time had to pass before I could place a photo of you on my desk. Before I could finally find the courage to bid you farwell. Goodbye, my friend whom I loved and hated, Cheon Sang-Yeon.”

That was difficult. This is the most difficult recap of a kdrama of 2025 yet for me.

Overall, it was such a beautiful sorrowful drama. I loved the way they ended it. The debate around euthanasia in kdrama land this year has been brought up several times. Another drama covering a different aspect of it, “Mary kills people,” is also airing its finale tonight.

I have a lot to say about euthanasia and I understand the backlash and the pushback it can get. I also understand how it can be misused and co-opted by horrible people too. But something cannot escape me, for the fact that we, as humans, largely are brought to life and taken out of it in ways we cannot control. The cruelty of that does not escape me. People will say this is life but its sad that you cannot take yourself out of it easily if you’d wished, especially in cases where you have little time to live and it’ll be miserable.

I don’t know what the answer is nor would I pretend both sides don’t make sense. Its just that all around, life is insanely difficult and cruel.
