Actor Park Ki Woong has opened up about his feelings a month after the passing of his father.

On July 2, Park Ki Woong shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing, “This year, I held three exhibitions, and I had planned a fourth one in July consisting entirely of new works I had been preparing for over a year. While I was in the final stages of preparation, my father suddenly passed away in an unexpected accident on June 7. Naturally, all schedules came to a halt. At the time, I was with my mother in the countryside for the three-day memorial service, and I thought about postponing the exhibition. But suddenly, I felt that my father wouldn’t have wanted that.”

He continued, “My father was someone who deeply valued keeping promises. I felt as if he was telling me to keep the promise I had made with the gallery. I told my mom, ‘I’ll go do this. Just wait a little. I’ll finish this well and come back.’ So I decided to proceed with the exhibition as planned. I really want to do well. This upcoming exhibition will be the first time I showcase sculptural work. My father, who worked in interior design, and my younger brother, who was always more artistically talented than I was, and I spent over eight months creating these pieces together.”

Park Ki Woong added, “While working on this, I often feel like the three of us are still together. I cry a lot. I don’t even know if I’m being a good son or a bad one. There are still many administrative matters I haven’t dealt with, but I want to finish this project well because it will be the first and last time I collaborate with my father. I want to proudly say, ‘Dad, your son did well.’ It felt like the world was falling apart, but I’ve come to realize that it isn’t. Our family is still living with pain, but I will show that we are moving forward. Please keep watching over us.”

Park Ki Woong’s father, Park In Hwan, passed away in an accident last month. Due to an investigation related to the accident, the funeral arrangements were delayed by two days. He was laid to rest at Andong Jangsa Culture Park.
