Song Young Kyu Steps Down From Play Due To Drunk Driving
Actor Song Young Kyu has stepped down from the play he was appearing in after being caught driving under the influence.
On July 25, the production company for the play Shakespeare in Love, ShowNote, stated, “Due to unavoidable circumstances, Song Young Kyu will appear in today’s performance (25th), but will step down from the production starting with the July 27 show.”
Song Young Kyu, who was playing the role of Fennyman in Shakespeare in Love, has been removed from the production following shocking DUI allegations.
Even on the day the drunk driving incident came to light, Song Young Kyu was scheduled to perform and will still appear on stage as planned. However, starting with the July 27 performance, he will step down, and Lim Chul Hyung will take over the role as the sole cast member.
ShowNote added, “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the sudden casting change. Cancellations and refunds due to the change in cast will be accepted without any fees.”
Song Young Kyu is suspected of driving under the influence on June 19 at around 11 p.m., after wrapping up a gathering with acquaintances. He allegedly drove around 5 km from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, while intoxicated. Police received a report from a witness who said, “It seems like someone is driving under the influence,” and identified and apprehended Song Young Kyu’s vehicle.
At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol level was reportedly above 0.08%, which warrants license revocation. The Yongin Eastern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province sent him to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office without detention at the end of June on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI).
Song Young Kyu is currently appearing in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama “i-Shopping” and is also part of the cast of SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama “The Winning Try” which premiered last night.
