“Study Group” Season 2 Finally Confirmed, Hwang Min Hyun To Return For The Drama
Actor Hwang Min Hyun is joining “Study Group Season 2.”
Production company YLAB officially announced on the 27th of January the production of the TVING original series “Study Group Season 2.” Along with this, it was revealed that Hwang Min Hyun will once again appear as the main character Yoon Ga Min.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “Study Group” is a series that depicts the story of Yoon Ga Min (played by Hwang Min Hyun), who wants to be good at studying but has all his talent concentrated in fighting, as he forms a study group at the worst problem school, Yuseong Technical High School.
Immediately after its release, the series recorded more than double the number of paid subscribers and viewing UV compared to the first week, ranking No. 1 for five consecutive weeks. In addition, it entered the weekly TOP 5 in 147 countries including the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and France, proving the strength of Korean-style school action content.
In particular, the high level of synchronization with the original webtoon and the refreshing action direction received rave reviews from overseas fans, ranking 7th in TIME Magazine’s 2025 Best K-Drama TOP 10, and even winning the Grand Prize for Best Streaming Original Feature Film at the 2025 AACA (Asian Academy Creative Awards).

However, previously, Hwang Min Hyun was unable to participate in promotional activities due to his military enlistment after filming Season 1. Even when Season 1 gained major attention, he was unable to join, causing disappointment among fans.
After being discharged from military service last December, Hwang Min Hyun chose “Study Group Season 2” as his comeback project.
The production team stated, “Hwang Min Hyun already has a perfect understanding of the character. You can look forward to new sides of Ga Min that were not seen in Season 1, including the reasons he wants to study so badly and his dilemmas, as well as even more spectacular action.”
“Study Group Season 2,” which Hwang Min Hyun has joined, is set to begin full-scale filming soon.
