Netflix’s “The Trunk” Ending Explained- Did Jeong-Won and In-Ji get back together?

Netflix has unveiled its newest Kdrama “The Trunk” a couple of hours ago, let us recap the finale and explain the ending!

Jeong-Won breaks the chandelier and runs to Seo-Yeon’s place for a confrontation. He then recalls his mother when he was young as she was trying to tie the rope so she can commit suicide. He helped her with it and a young Seo-Yeon was there with him too.

As the confront each other, Seo-Yeon says she felt like she lost control. Jeong-Won says he’s shocked and can’t fathom how she’d spy on him like his father did. They have a very tense confrontation and he tells her its over for good. He tells her she’s crazy and gets out.

In the rain while walking aimlessly after what happened, In-Ji finds him and picks him up. She suggests they take off away and they do go to a place near a lake.

They sleep together and remember their college days, he wonders if they had dated back then what would’ve happened. As they’re talking, she tells him she wants a divorce, he asks if he’s done something wrong, she says its over. She says she overstepped a line and apologizes.

After that, she leaves and cuts off contact. Jeong-Won tries to find her but can’t. The agency also says they can’t help him. He’s now moving out and one of the guys who is helping out with the moving is Eom Tae-Seong who steals the trunk thinking it was In-Ji’s. He calls her to tell her that it has the papers and they should meet, he wonders if he should kill him. She tries to tell him they’re over but he’s less than pleased.

At night, Ji-Oh finds Seo-Yeon collapsed, she tried to commit suicide. Jeong-Won also visits and gets scolded for some reason. After Ji-Oh takes Seo-Yeon home, she apologizes and says the marriage is over. When she goes back home, she finds Jeong-Won who had her stay, to give her a chance to get a realization. He says he pitied her and they’re never ever getting back together.

At night, near the lake, In-Ji meets with Eom Tae-Seong. She tries to open it thinking it was hers, but discovers its not. She lies and says she can’t open it because he did something to it. He gets into a heated argument with her. He had also sent a text to Jeong-Won who rushes there. When he arrives, In-Ji sees them two fighting and then takes out Jeong-Won’s gun and shoots at him, but they were blanks. Eom Tae-Seong runs away in panic. She cries thinking she killed him but she finds out they’re blanks. Jeong-Won says he didn’t load it because he was afraid he’d shoot himself.

At the police station, In-Ji tells the whole story, she will be charged with gun possession but thats about it.

We find out that who killed Eom Tae-Seong was Ji-Oh, who was instructed to do so by the COO of their marriage agency. He hit him with a sword thats used for fencing.

After he had come back from killing him, he admits to it to Seo-Yeon who is shocked. At the police station, she doesn’t rat him out. But as she finishes questioning, she opens the trunk and finds baby clothes. She cries.

As this ordeal is over, In-Ji says goodbye to Kwon Do-Dam. And also takes her stuff from Jeong-Won’s place. He asks if they ever meet by chance once or twice, would it be enough to realize they’re meant for each other?

The two part ways.

Eventually, Ji-Oh gets arrested by police and Seo-Yeon decides to stand by his side, she hires him a good lawyer and resumes their marriage.

Both Jeong-Won and In-Ji move out and get pets, they move on with their lives normally feeling lonely. We also find out that Yoon-A wants a divorce.

One day as In-Ji is getting coffee, she pauses and sees Jeong-Won getting out of a car. He also sees her later and rushes after her. They meet, they ask each other how its going and smile at each other in the street. He then says its their first ever unintended meeting.

When I tell you I was excited about this drama, you have no idea. Two amazing actors combined together in a Netflix drama, what could be better?

As a first impression, I would say that “The Trunk” is a well-made drama on all fronts. Its beautifully shot, well directed, and filled with amazing talented actors. However, a part of me wanted something that was a bit more OUT THERE, if that makes sense. I was expecting a more shocking/memorable drama, something that would leave an everlasting impression on me.

Not that this drama will not be remembered by me on the long run, but I wanted more. Regardless, as a first impression of the 1^st watch, I’d say I enjoyed this drama a lot. I am glad to see Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun Jin back, to be honest with you.

Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun Jin did so well together and they shared good chemistry. It was great watching them act together since they’re both such amazing actors. I need to absorb the drama and likely watch again to form a more concise opinion
