“My Dearest Nemesis” Episodes 1 And 2 Review

Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook join forces for the new office romance drama “My Dearest Nemesis,” so how were the premiere episodes?

“My Dearest Nemesis” feels like a mix between the old and new kdrama worlds and I liked it so far but Hyun Wook as a working adult is just too far-fetched for me. Let me explain!

Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, “My Dearest Nemesis” reminds me of “Whats Wrong with Secretary kim” and in a good way, for the most part.

The premiere was lighthearted, fun and generally a treat to see. It wasn’t too much of anything which is also a good thing. It was cringy and slightly corny at times, but it seems to be the intention they’re going for, so its fine.

It reminds me of the many other similar projects Moon Ga Young has taken on over the years, in terms of feel. Her character this time is much more feisty and a go-getter. I just hope she doesn’t become a Cinderella in this story, that would be a bit much.

Soo Jung’s actions are grounds for termination in the real world but they do provide catharsis to us viewers who might be venturing into our first-ever job or dealing with a horrible boss. Soo-Jung does the things we wish we could do with our bosses, so that was fun to see.

I also liked how it seemed like the drama takes 10 steps at a time and the pace is much faster than I had anticipated, which I also enjoyed. Seeing next week’s episodes preview, it seems he’s already really into her and knows who she is, and even already admitted he likes her.

Now onto the cutie, Hyun Wook. One of my fav young actors.

I’ll be honest, with this role, it feels like I’m watching a mom put on an adult’s black suit on a kid, truthfully and I say this with so much love. Don’t get me wrong, he looks cute, but he looks like he is not in his element, he looks like he does not belong there, and not intentionally.

So, if we assume Soo Jung was 17 to 18 [in international age] when she met him, and he was around 14 to 15 [in international age] as the drama timeline goes, it means there is around 3 to 5 years age gap. This isn’t the issue, but according to the wiki’s plot summary, the two meet 16 years later…. Which is … like… are you serious? 16 whole as* years, serious?

Moon Ga Young could pass for someone in her early to mid-30s, but Hyun Wook does NOT look like he’s in his late 20s or early 30s, not by a long shot.

I think this is partially the writer and director’s intention but I can’t shake the feeling that Hyun Wook inadvertently also appears like a kid in a man’s suit. I think its because of his cheeks that make him look, and appropriately so, his age [early 20s] that it feels so odd seeing him acting like a director.

In the drama, it seems they’re aiming for this confusion because he’s sort of concerned with hiding his true child-like innocent nature but he just doesn’t look like a working man to me. This is a very personal dumb complaint but I felt the need to point it out.

Regardless, I feel like “My Dearest Nemesis” will be the type of cute light kdrama you could enjoy with your friends or siblings, the kind of sweet drama that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Its a bit on the nose but as long as it doesn’t push it far, it’ll be fine.

I also predict “My Dearest Nemesis” will do amazing numbers overseas, I can feel it already.
