“Nine Puzzles” Episodes 1 To 6 Review- Even Better Than I Had Expected

Disney+ “Nine Puzzles” is here at last, let us discuss the new drama!

The release schedule for “Nine Puzzles” is somewhat confusing. Disney+ has unveiled the 1^st 6 episodes all today, and then plans on releasing 3 episodes next week and the final 2 the week after…. I didn’t expect this because they had been relatively consistent with their weekly kdrama releases whenever a new Kdrama they’ve produced has come out.

But… I cannot complain for I am in love with the premiere episodes of “Nine Puzzles.”

This year has been ok, but not great. We’ve had some 2 to 4 good kdramas but its been relatively quiet this year so far. [Not Mentioning When Life Gives You Tangerines]

As a person who enjoys thriller, crime and suspense kdramas, this is like what I’d want and expect. “Nine Puzzles” ended up exceeding my expectations with just how smart the premise is. Everything is accounted for and I LOVE it when screenwriters are this meticulous.

The screenwriter behind this wrote the 2017 drama “Tunnel” which I remember enjoying and also wrote “Navillera” which I remember having mixed feelings about. In this case, I would say that, so far, “Nine Puzzles” is tightly written.

The directing is also great and the set design truly captured my attention. The special attention the team pays to details has not gone unnoticed by me despite being engrossed in the plot.

Now time to share my thoughts and theories.

I have suspected a mole inside the precinct since episode 2, I believe. I also suspect the person has tabs on E-Na’s phone. I was asking myself why hasn’t E-Na hired someone to check whether she’s been followed or not, but turns out, she has been, which makes me fall in love with the script even more.

From what I’ve seen so far, I love the characterizations for the main protagonists, especially our E-Na and Han-Saem. I can roughly picture how they’d behave in certain situations and I love the moments of vulnerability both exhibit at specific points in the drama so far.

My guess is that the amusement park is a connecting point. I am guessing that the person who committed the 1^st crime was either locked up or overseas or something major happened that it took them 10 years to re-start. The 10 year gap is evidence that something went wrong. It could also mean the person took their time to earn money and thus have time on the side to then track every single one of the 9 people to kill them.

I am guessing something happened in the amusement park, someone was lost, kidnapped or killed, and somehow, the 9 people who will be killed are all involved in it to some extent. They could have shared the same space when it happened and the collection of their actions led to a horrible outcome to our killer. Hence, the murders happening. It might not even be a physical connection as in all of them being in the same space but at least all of them are somehow connected to this park.

It also seems to be connected to E-Na and one of my guesses is that the reason they took a 10-year break is because of her and what happened in her villa when she found her uncle. I am 50-50 on what could be the reason behind the gap, but I know E-Na is involved.

I am also making a guess here, but I believe the killer will want to be caught eventually. once the killings are over, I think they’re trying to send a much bigger message and it seems to me they want people to know.

Of course, I could be wrong and it could just be a ruthless killer who enjoys taunting our E-Na, that’s also a good possibility. I am also guessing E-Na saw his/her face.

Overall, I love this so much already. I love watching crime kdramas and guessing who the killer is. I hope the rest of it is as tightly woven as the 1^st 6 episodes released.

I love Son Suk Ku and Da Mi in their roles, and honestly, was also surprised they shared such cute unexpected chemistry. While I don’t think it’ll happen, a love line wouldn’t be a bad idea further down the line.
