“S-Line” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- What A Unique Concept

Wavve’s “S-Line” has premiered today, let us discuss the premiere episodes!

There has been some buzz around the drama because it was was selected as one of the eight entries in the competition category at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival, which is obviously a big deal. People were talking about how good the drama is.

So, the original work is a webcomic by the same title and according to Namuwiki, it had three volumes but didn’t run for that long, which is interesting.

The adaptation is written and directed by an unknown female director named Ahn Ju-Young, which is also interesting.

The drama itself will be only 6 episodes… which is a choice… I don’t know whether its good or bad, or enough, yet.

Maybe its because of the subject line that the production decided on a shorter episodes count, I just hope it wraps up in one season but I am guessing it might not, 6 episodes of anything is hardly enough, but I might be wrong.

The idea itself is so interesting to me, whoever thought of it was a genius. This opens up the room to a lot of interpretations, conflicts and issues you can explore as a writer, you’d take a while to run out of content which makes the decision to make it short even more interesting.

I am guessing it’ll have a very shocking ending too.

I liked the premiere episodes, a lot. I can’t discuss the writing in massive details because I feel like there is enough context missing, for now. Thus, I’ll likely discuss it when the drama concludes its run. But from what I’ve seen so far, I think its unique and I love how either morally ambiguous or downright horrible most of the main characters are, this makes for a very interesting watching experience.

Its also something thats not relatively easy to find in today’s Kdramas, especially in the case of Lee Soo Hyuk’s character. He appears so nonchalant to his niece that it infuriates me….. she’s beaten and the dude is just…. Ugh….

In terms of performances, this is, I believe, my first time watching Arin. I looked her up because I didn’t recognize her and remembered she was in “Alchemy of Souls” which was her first acting role.

Based on my very basic google search, she’s from a group called Oh My Girl and she’s relatively a rookie idol-actress, but she’s good. I liked her performance, I was pleasantly surprised as a kdrama fan.

Arin’s character needed to be acted well, and I think she’s doing fine, especially for a relative rookie actress with very few projects under her belt.

Da Hee and Soo Hyuk did well too, as they always do, they’re always reliable.

I am interested in seeing what happens next in the drama. Excited for next week’s episodes.
