“Tastefully Yours” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- A Bit Typical But Otherwise Lovely

“Tastefully Yours” starring Go Min Si and Kang Ha Neul has finally premiered and here is what I thought of it!

The drama has been on my radar since 2025 began. The stellar choice to pair Go Min Si and Kang Ha Neul together piqued a lot of people’s interest, including mine. Generally speaking, Go Min Si picks very fun projects, and even if not the best written, they’re usually intriguing. Its a similar case with Kang Ha Neul, but in my opinion, his recent dramas have not been to my liking.

Regardless, you can count on those two to give you the best performances EVER. They’re joined by the lovely and immensely talented Kim Shin-Rok, so this makes for a very well-rounded stellar casting.

The script is written by Jung Soo-Yeon. Upon checking her profile on Namuwiki, it says she wrote many scripts before this one but they’ve mostly flown under the radar having aired/streamed on unknown broadcasting channels.

The director is the one behind “Weak Hero Class 1.” It would be a lie to say I wasn’t slightly surprised by Go Min Si and Kang Ha Neul’s decision to pick this project, thus far.

Of course, this is a 1^st impression article so there is a possibility that there is more to it than meets the eyes. If so, it’d make me happy. I love it when a drama proves my initial thoughts of it to be incomplete/wrong.

The script is mostly obvious, in ways I would’ve loved to not see. Let me explain!

Casting such amazing actors to only do very basic introductions with more than expected cliches and ‘complications’ that somehow turn it into a situation where our main characters must interact in the same space is a choice. I would’ve loved to see that part handled better in terms of writing.

Saying the dude loses all his rights/money immediately because of his brother’s very illegal actions is illogical. I wouldn’t expect a chaebol not to have any sort of streams of income/ assets besides their main job. This makes it so the entire sequence of him going through such rough times very comical but not the way I would’ve loved to see. This also makes the subsequent ‘broke’ trope not really work as well as you’d expect, because what do you mean a chaebol who is part of one of the biggest restaurant and food conglomerates has no safety net?

I would’ve much preferred if they focused more on the psychological aspect of it rather than the monetary aspect, it would’ve added much more depth to the story. The two brothers clearly are on rough terms and the mother is clearly evil, focus on that instead. It would not have made it that much less obvious but it would’ve helped with the immersion in the story better, for me at least.

Its not that such approach is uncommon in kdrama land, its more so veryyyyyyy typical and lazy. I expect better from a Go Min Si and Kang Ha Neul drama. You could/will say my expectations were a bit higher than they should have, and honestly, yes, they were.

The drama’s premiere also hits very similar beats from what I’d expect from it. I am expecting the cocky Han Beom-Woo to learn how to treat people better and for the uptight Mo Yeon-Joo to meet the love of her life and loosen up a bit. Such a script is common in kdrama land, and who doesn’t love seeing a chaebol get humbled by a poor hardworking sweet girl who don’t give a sh-t about who he is?

Regardless of that, I think for the most part “Tastefully Yours” was a fun watch. I think the two actors work well together, and while odd in my ways I think are intentional, Kim Shin Rok character is lovely.

The screenwriter takes the very fast approach in this drama and does very fast introductions. I think its partially because this drama is only 10 episodes long, which is short even for an ENA drama. This part also surprised me.

This should be a fun drama to watch, hope it stays nice throughout its run!
