“The Auditors” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- A Good Start But…

The newest tvN drama “The Auditors” is here and being uniquely about an audit team for a construction company, it definitely made an impression, but is it enough?

Shin Ha Kyun has an eye for good projects and generally selects great dramas to lead. This was partially one of the reasons I was drawn into the drama, the other is the topic, I was curious to see if the screenwriter can make such a topic interesting enough to follow.

and my verdict so far is… its fine!

For a premiere, I thought it was good. There are several expected stereotypes associated with Shin Ha Kyun’s character, mainly his tortured childhood past, but for the most part, it was a fine watch.

Goo Han-Soo [Lee Jung Ha] is the exact opposite of Shin Cha-Il… but as Shin Cha-Il said, he is not suitable to be in this position, the cute dude is too trusting to be a part of an audit team where its your job to question EVERYTHING and everyone.

I think the screenwriter is moving towards building a comradery between them and Goo Han-Soo becoming the slightly more empathetic version of Shin Cha-Il who is obviously jaded in part due to the corruption and horrible faces some people put on while scamming their companies. He sees right through the bullsh-t.

He’s a bit too head on and it’s a wonder for me how he was not killed doing such antics till now, but we shall see throughout this drama how it pans out.

I was also slightly surprised that Jin Goo is taking on what seems to be the villain role so far. I thought from the teaser photos he was going to be a free-spirited leader but apparently, he’s also deeply embedded in the corruption of the other executives he works with.

It’ll be interesting to see if this is generally all his character will shape out to be. I’ve heard some fans say it might be a decoy and the person who hired Shin Cha-Il is actually the villain. but I wouldn’t mind seeing Jin Goo taking on the villain role here.

I also liked Yoon Seo-Jin’s character, despite being what appears to be extremely individualistic and a show-off, I agree with her thinking. Its not good to give more to your company than they deserve, don’t go above and beyond and just do the job. If you look at her from afar, she’ll appear a bit too cold and materialistic to an extent, but her thinking is the right way to go about things, its better not to get too invested or work harder than you should for a company that wouldn’t care much before replacing you.

Generally, this is the way younger generations think and I agree with their approach, its way better than slaving away at a company that doesn’t care for your well-being but their bottom line. Do your job, just that.

“The auditors” go through many talking points of the way Korean corporations operate. The hierarchy, the corruption, the sticklers for the rules, the enthusiastic or jaded youngsters, and such. it tackles several subjects I think all working Koreans can relate to.

Overall, I think if you’re interested in topics about corruption or particularly love the actors involved in this project, “The Auditors” could be an intriguing story. To me, its still undecided, it’ll depend on what else is on these days. I wouldn’t say I am particularly invested in next week’s episodes if that makes sense, but when I saw the premiere episodes, I thought they were well-written and well-directed.

I think this might appeal to slightly older generations too.

Its just that I am not particularly into watching dramas, Korean or not, primarily focusing on auditing teams as I personally do not find the topic one that draws me in.
